'Pop's Diner' is a heartwarming tale set in the nostalgic backdrop of a 1950s-style diner. The story revolves around a brother and sister - twins - whose lives turned out very different from the way they had planned. Returning to their old neighborhood after the death of their mother, Matthew and Debra Aster find themselves back at the one place that they always felt was the center of their universe, Pop's Diner, where everyone gathered to share their hopes, their dreams, their joys and their sorrows.
'Pop's Diner' follows the lives of a group of diverse characters, each whose lives are filled with their own personal dreams and challenges, who find solace and inspiration within the walls of this age-old neighborhood institution, and by combining humor, drama, and great music of the 1970's, they create a unique theatrical experience that celebrates community and the power of love and friendship.
The idea for 'Pop's Diner' was born out of a desire to bring back the charm and simplicity of the playwright's childhood, as an aspiring musician growing up in Brooklyn, NY. Marty Alen Angstreich has developed a loving group of fictional characters that are loosely based on fond memories of events and dear friends and family from his past - many of whom have sadly come and gone; a heartfelt tribute to the people who have helped to shape and influence his life in so different many ways. Inspired by lifetime of personal experiences and a true love for musical theater, Marty has crafted a narrative that resonates with audiences of all ages.
